“Madge” grew up in Port Pirie, home to the world’s biggest lead smelter, spending Saturdays on the wharf catching shit fish.
He got a job at The Recorder newspaper office as an apprentice compositor.
That trade died and he studied journalism through Deakin University.
Anthony owns Madigan Media, publisher of WBM – Australia’s Wine Business Magazine and The Week That Was.
In 2012 UK company Wine Intelligence named Anthony as one of 30 wine industry leaders who had made “a significant contribution” to the global wine business over the past 10 years.
He dedicated it to his sister, Mary-Anne, who was stillborn on 21 September 1956.
“Country Wine is a great blog about wine and just a very entertaining read… each post is a classic read in itself.” – Mark Wickman, Wickman’s Fine Wine Auctions.
Wine is a rural pursuit.
Let’s never forget it.
Love it!

Hi Madge, came across this blog when looking for a Rat Bait recipe and love it! Couldn’t find the rat bait recipe, but will just have to go on memory. Maybe you can advise with a suitable wine to accompany, just in time for father day. Great Job!

Ha! A rat bait recipe and you find this! That is funny. A cheeky little Sangiovese would probably do the trick. Take care and thanks for the message. Madge.

Hi Anthony, came across this very interesting and well written blog.
I’m a working for a french champagne close to Reims, in France, and I’m planning to move soon in Australia for several years.
Is there a way to contact you by email ? Would love showing you our cuvées.
Many thanks !
